Episode 141: ReyesMorenoDesigns - David & Rafael
ReyesMorenoDesigns
IG: @reyesmorenodesigns
David Moreno was born and raised in Chicago’s Pilsen and Little Village neighborhoods. David has been designing and actively involved in fashion since about the age of 7. He enjoyed sketching and learned sewing skills from his mother, Amparo Gonzalez, who became the head seamstress in 1982 for The Mexican Folkloric Dance Company of Chicago. At an early age he was exposed to a variety of fashions, from the company’s costumes that involved authentic and colorful wardrobe to the modern high fashion that was in style at that time. David also engaged in fanatically watching Mexican “novelas” typically known as soap operas. He cared little for the storyline, but instead paid close attention at what the actresses wore during each episode.
On September 4 2011, David happily married Rafael Reyes. Rafael was born in La Piedad, Michoacán, Mexico. Rafael is a creative and self-motivated individual. He is an admirable hard worker with a positive perspective on life who never sees anything as impossible. In 2012, Rafael started learning basic sewing skills from his mother-in-law, Amparo Gonzalez. David and Rafael started assisting Amparo in mending costumes. Both yearned to learn as much as possible, always motivated by their passion of putting garments together and restoring them back to their original state. It was then that they were given the chance to create new costumes for the dance company’s anniversary performance. This unique learning experience gave them the opportunity to take their passion to another level. In 2014, Rafael was asked to work with a local designer and this provided him with more hands-on experience.
David and Rafael frequently spoke about their shared goal, and that was to one day create their own fashion line, ReyesMorenoDesigns. In 2015 their dream came true and David and Rafael founded ReyesMorenoDesigns. Their work consisted of creating unique and detailed pieces for drag performers both local and throughout the United States, as well as for women who looked for unique dresses for social events. In 2017, they were again asked to design and manufacture the costumes for The Mexican Folkloric Dance Company of Chicago’s 35th year anniversary performance. Then in 2018 Reyes Moreno designed and created its first ranchero style wedding and “quinceañera” collection. This collection is on sale at a local shop located on the famous 26th street in Little Village, Chicago. ReyesMorenoDesigns was also given the honor of designing a dress for one of Mexico’s top folk music performer, Beatriz Adriana and continue to work with rising artist and daughter of Beatriz Adriana and Marco Antonio Solis, Beatriz Solis by ebing asked to design gowns for her upcoming Ranchero album release.
ReyesMorenoDesigns is seeing an increased demand for all types of affairs, both artistic and social. Their styles fit the modern demands of not only their community but also other regions. One of their famous most requested styles includes the ‘ranchero” fashion. This fashion is a variation of folk wardrobe applied to evening, wedding, and quinceañera gowns. Their 2019 prom collection can be described as modern, exceptional, and incomparable. The collection meets the demands of today’s youth by creating garments with glamour, charm, and high fashion.
ReyesMorenoDesigns continue to work towards making their clients feel amazing by wearing exclusive designs, tailored to their fashion taste, modern demand and created to enhance their natural beauty.
Episode 140: Windy City Cosmo - Amanda Elliott
Welcome to Windy City Cosmo, a lifestyle blog that looks at city life in an artistic light. Amanda Elliott seeks to draw connections and capture Chicago’s flare through ambiance, food, and conversations at professional and creative events.
When she came to Chicago, she wanted to live the chic, cosmopolitan, Carrie Bradshaw-esque life that is totally possible in the city! So, she created Windy City Cosmo, to learn from women who are building their own business as Chicago female entrepreneurs, but also learn about adulting as a freelancer and growing in her career as a marketer through events at General Assembly, NextDoor, 1871 and conferences like TechWeek.
She’s not looking to sip and dip at events (although sometimes it can be awkward), she really believes that meeting people in person is important, and she hopes to build connections whether it’s by finding new friends (because everyone tends to leave after a year or two), creating partnerships or finding the next best cocktails to take a date.
Her blog is a place where you can find that chic restaurant or happy hour bar, talk about your unexpected lover, and be inspired by entrepreneurs and the savvy social media socialites meeting and greeting, and most importantly building a better version of themselves and the world. Sip a cosmo, read a cosmo, and live a cosmopolitan life on Windy City Cosmo.

Episode 114: Best Food Chicago - Alex Jewell
Alex Jewell is a programmer by day and Chitown foodie by night. From the horse’s mouth:
Brand:
Developing a strong brand is an art you can’t learn in school or read about on Medium. It takes something innate and simple: being human. I’ve spent my entire life studying what that means, and the greater half being conscious of it. Consistency, relatability, clarity, and relevancy iron out your identity and make you recognizable and memorable.
Strategy:
People work in particular ways. Social media has exacerbated trends and the exposure of human nature, giving us the perfect platform by which to study how people interact with each other, with technology, and with content. I know what works and what doesn’t. Developing a brand is one thing, but building an entity does not make people flock to it. By applying strategy, we expose target markets to who you are and help them fall in love with you.
He utilizes his experience as a programmer to capture some of the most fascinating stories in food across Chicago.

Monday Munchies Episode 028
Monday Munchies Episode 028: On these episodes you will be sitting shotgun on my adventures of exploring restaurants in the past few weeks. Albeit, I am not a certified food critic but I do love to eat and some would say that I do have a certain set of skills… I’m not sure what those are nor am I a “yelper” like the majority of residents in South Park, Colorado. But I do love trying new restaurants and food. So enjoy:
Episode 105: Gluten Free Bar - Marshall Rader
Started in 2010 by brothers, Marshall and Elliott Rader, the GFB has been a leader in the gluten-free industry by creating food that not only nourishes your body but tastes amazing, too. Have you ever thought life would be better if snacking could be nutritious and delicious—if gluten-free didn’t have to mean taste-free? So have they, which is why here at the GFB, they value Marshall and Elliott’s courage to walk away from the corporate world in order to invest in a product idea that eventually became a way of life.
While the brothers’ initial goal focused on creating a good-tasting, good-for-you, gluten-free protein bar, their product line has since expanded and so has the scope of their mission. Every day the GFB aims to make the world a better place by committing to producing healthy foods in honest ways. They source organic whenever possible and use only wholesome ingredients, and while they believe in simplicity when it comes to their food, they value the complexities associated with being a company of integrity. They actively search for ways to innovate healthy living, operate more sustainably, diversify their workforce, and enrich their community. The focus of the GFB now encompasses the quality of both their products and the lifestyles of their team members, the community, the retailers they work with, their suppliers, and their customers—gluten intolerant or not.
